Seattle, WA (August 24, 2010) – Mountain Hardwear, a Seattle retailer of mountaineering and outdoor clothing and equipment, will host Mountain Hardwear athlete and book author Freddie Wilkinson at its 250 Pine Street store on Wednesday, September 29th at 6:30PM.

Join the author for a presentation, discussion and signing of his book about the K2 disaster of 2008 titled, “One Mountain Thousand Summits: The Untold Story and Tragic Heroism on K2.”

Publisher’s Weekly had this to say about the book:

“Wilkinson, a veteran alpinist and mountaineering scribe, closely examines the mysterious tragedy that cost the lives of 11 men on the unforgiving K2, the world's second highest mountain, on August 2008, in his new book. Interviewing not only the survivors and the families of the victims but the heroic Sherpa guides in Nepal, he gives the daunting legacy of the challenging terrain and a blow-by blow account, with clinical accuracy and detail, of the disaster that nearly wiped out the international climbing team. Wilkinson also describes what makes an experienced climber challenge himself to risk death using his technical skills, endurance, and mental stamina while battling bone-chilling cold, altitude sickness, and avalanche.”

There is no charge for this event, and it will include raffle prizes, snacks and beverages. This in-store event is one of the many events hosted at the Mountain Hardwear downtown Seattle store, including slide shows, athlete visits, travel speakers, and other informational and educational opportunities.
