Getting There: You can reach Napa Valley easily by flying into San Francisco or Oakland airports. From San Francisco, head north on Highway 101 to Highway 80, cross the Bay Bridge towards Oakland and take Highway 880/80 North, exit Highway 37 West. Follow Highway 37 and turn right onto Highway 29 North. This is the most direct route and takes about 1-1/2 hours.
From Oakland, take Highway 680 North to Highway 780 North towards Vallejo, to Highway 80 East, exit Highway 37 West, and turn right onto Highway 29 North. Travel distance is around 40 miles and takes about an hour in non-rush-hour traffic.

Staying There: Over 2500 hotel rooms and hundreds of bed and breakfast establishments can be found in Napa Valley. Some of the WWW links below offer on-line reservation services. A particularly peaceful and elegant B&B which we recently enjoyed is Forest Manor, situated in the forested hills approximately 6 miles from the valley, near St. Helena.
From biking, hiking, hot air ballooning, relaxing in mineral baths, golfing, boating, wine tasting, and dining, Napa Valley has a wealth of recreational and cultural attractions for the visitor.

Napa Valley is located at the northeastern tip of San Francisco Bay, 35-miles north of San Francisco. It is bordered to the west by Sonoma Valley and to the east by Yolo and Solano Counties. With a population of approximately 114,000 people, major cities of Napa County include Napa, Yountville, St. Helena, Calistoga and American Canyon. Winegrape growing, winemaking, and tourism are its primary industries.
The Napa River flows south for some 40 miles before it empties into San Francisco Bay through the sloughs of San Pablo Bay. It offers good fishing and canoeing, right in the heart of Napa.
