When You Go
New Mexico Skiing |
Getting There: Most major airlines including American, Southwest, Frontier, Continental, Delta, United and America West fly to Albuquerque, the nearest major airport, 60 miles south of Santa Fe and 135 miles south of Taos. Links to airline sites are in this magazines Airlines page. Public transportation is extremely limited, so most visitors rent a car. The major car rental agencies are located at the airport. For links to agency sites, see this magazines Autos page.
From Albuquerque, drive north on Interstate 25 to Santa Fe. The Santa Fe Ski Resort is 16 miles from town on Highway 475. For information about the Santa Fe Ski Shuttle from Santa Fe, call 820-7541. Angel Fire and Red River ski areas are within 110 miles of Santa Fe or within 40 miles of Taos. To continue to Taos from Santa Fe continue north on Highways 285, 84, then 68. Taos Ski Valley is 18 miles farther north on Highway 150. For Ski Apache, the nearest major airport is in El Paso, Texas. Alternatively, drive 195 miles south of Albuquerque to Ski Apache.
Staying There: All levels of accommodations are available, with Taos, Angel Fire and Red River offering lodges, inns and motels within easy walking distance of the slopes. Lodging is also available in communities near all five areas, including downtown Santa Fe.
